Dr. O.M. Brown's Physician Affidavit
Even as the Bureau's suspension inquiry proceeded, Elias Roberts was separately pursuing his 1893 claim for an increase of pension, Certificate No. 17403, filed under Jas. Gillespie's company. This affidavit, sworn October 28, 1893 before Justice of the Peace and Notary H. Paul Georgi but not witnessed and sealed until November 17, was given by O.M. Brown, M.D., age 38 of Hockley, a graduate of the Memphis Medical Hospital College. Dr. Brown testified that he had examined Roberts and found him suffering from a right inguinal hernia requiring a constant truss, along with severely inflamed and protruding hemorrhoids, conditions he judged left Roberts almost totally disabled for manual labor. The affidavit was stamped received at the Pension Office on November 21, 1893.

County of Harris. }
In the matter of claim for increase of pension, Certificate No. 17403, of Elias Roberts, Jas. Gillespie's company, Regiment of Texas Vols., on this day 28th day of October, A.D. 1893, personally appeared before me, H. Paul Georgi, Justice of the Peace and ex officio Notary Public, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, O. M. Brown, aged 38 years, a resident of Hockley, in the County of Harris and State of Texas, whose Post Office address is Hockley, Texas, well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case, as follows:
I am a practicing physician, a graduate of the Memphis Medical Hospital College. I have examined Mr. Elias Roberts and find that he has rupture or hernia in right inguinal region which necessitates the constant use of a truss, and I also find that he is badly afflicted with piles, or hemorrhoids, that are constantly inflamed and protruding. From the foregoing condition I consider him almost totally disabled for manual labor. I further declare that I have no interest in said case and am not concerned in its prosecution.

I further certify that I am in nowise interested in said case, nor am I concerned in its prosecution, and that said affiant is personally known to me and that he is [a] credible person.
