Note on source
|
Real, closely matching counterpart to the "Neill O'Hurly" anecdote in CHAS 1905 p. 112. The Ulster entry records Kildare plundered by "the foreigners" (Vikings), with clergy ransomed using "his own silver" by a Niall ua Eruilb — a wealthy patron paying to free captured clergy, not a captive ransoming himself as CHAS 1905 has it. "Ua Eruilb" is phonetically close to "O'Hurly" but is a separately documented lineage; see source #8. Not yet independently checked against the Annals of the Four Masters' own entry for the same year, only against Ulster. |
