Text

Letter from Mary Agnes Hickson, 5 Edward Street, Tralee, to Lord Dunboyne, dated 9 Aug 1875 (signed 10 Aug 1875). She was compiling a pedigree of the FitzGibbon "White Knights" for Rev. James Graves's journal, and asks Lord Dunboyne about the Kilmore branch and the FitzGibbons of Coshlea/Ballinahensy.

Key genealogical detail (relevant to the Knocklong Hurlys, a separate Hurly line from Ballinacarriga/Kerry, both possibly descending from or related to the Hurly/O'Hurly stock referenced in the 1854 arms confirmation's "Sir Thomas Hurly, Baronet of Knocklong"):

"The FitzGibbons of Coshlea intermarried with the Hurly family a daughter of Maurice Hurly of Knocklong in 1636 marrying her cousin Maurice FitzGibbon of Ballinahensy - and the niece of this lady a Katherine Hurly married I believe the Lord Dunboyne of that time." Hickson cites "the Funeral Certificates in the Record Tower" (Ulster's Office funeral entries, now NLI Genealogical Office MSS) as her source, specifically Maurice Hurly's funeral certificate of 1637 (GO MS 70, pp. 188-189).

A later pencil annotation on the letter identifies this Katherine Hurly as the wife of Pierce Butler, 5th Baron Dunboyne.
