Study of the flight of Munster lords and followers to Spain (Valladolid court and La Coruña, Galicia), 1602-1606, after Kinsale. Relevant content:

  • Denis [Donnchadh] O'Driscoll, lord of Castlehaven, arrived at La Coruña by end July 1602 with Cornelius O'Driscoll, son of the lord of Baltimore, and about forty others (citing M. K. Walsh).
  • Memorial of Denis O'Driscoll, 26 Nov 1603 (AGS, Guerra Antigua, leg. 611): "his wife, children, and family together with those of his brothers and many vassals have come and come every day to La Coruña"; royal pension 80 escudos a month.
  • Memorial of Elena and Honora O'Driscoll, sisters of the lord of Castlehaven, 1603 (AGS, CH, leg. 429, f. 11): their mother died in France on the way to Spain.
  • Capt. Cornelius O'Driscoll led the Irish companies in Galicia 1604-05; a Dermot O'Driscoll signed the Irish nobles' declaration of 30 Dec 1605 (AGS Estado 843, f. 119).
