Elias Roberts Mexican War Pension — Page 7

War Department Service Record Report

This is the War Department's official reply, dated November 28, 1888, to the Bureau's request on page 5: the Adjutant General's Office, over the printed signature of Adjutant General R.C. Drum (signed by proxy M.B. Ewing), reports that Elias Roberts, a private in Capt. Jas. Gillaspie's company of Col. J.C. Hays' Regiment Texas Mounted Volunteers, was enrolled on April 24, 1847 at San Antonio for six months and mustered out with his company at San Antonio on June 4, 1847. This is the official record that establishes his April 1847 enlistment date, one year later than the "1846" Roberts himself had recalled in his original application.
