Report of Pensioner Dropped by Death
This printed U.S. Pension Agency form, "(Pensioner Dropped.)", was received at the Knoxville, Tennessee agency on January 13, 1897 and formally closes out Elias Roberts' own pension record. Pension Agent D.A. Carpenter reported to the Commissioner of Pensions that Roberts, private of Capt. Gillespie's Company, Texas Mounted Volunteers, pensioner under Certificate No. 17403 and last paid $8 through May 4, 1896, had been dropped from the rolls because of death. A marginal processing note dates the certification to January 20, 1897 — clearing the way for the accrued-pension claim examined on the following page.
