Marriage grade B-: stated by Bennett (1869), who calls her a daughter of Randal Oge Hurley and Catherine Collins (O'Cullane), and says Mac-ni-Crimen fled to Kildee "within sight of his brother-in-law's castle" (Ballinacarriga). Not in Mac-ni-Crimen's own examination (MS 826 fols 76r-77v). Bennett also says Mac-ni-Crimen's wife importuned McCarthy Reagh for the written order. That appears to be a misreading of Captain John Sweet's testimony of 9 Sep 1652 (MS 826 fols 19r-20v), where McCarthy Reagh says Mac-ni-Crimen "desired his mac Cartyes wife" to get something under his hand, "which vpon his wifes Importunity mc Caarty granted": the wife was McCarthy Reagh's. So no examination of Mac-ni-Crimen's wife is to be expected; Bennett's statement of the marriage itself (his footnote) is independent of this and stays grade B-. The son, Captain Mac-ni-Crimen, may be by an earlier wife. Citation details: pp. 173-175 n., 191 n.
