Note: FamilySearch record search and Find a Grave: Laura Belle Beckett Lute Mewhirter, 1888-1979. FamilySearch record search and Find a Grave: Laura Belle Beckett Lute Mewhirter, 1888-1979. California Death Index (VPCQ-BZF) and SSDI: born 5 Feb 1888 in California, died 19 Sep 1979 in Tulare County. Censuses: 1900 Eagle Point, Oregon, as daughter of Thomas J. and Caroline Beckett; 1910 Fresno County and 1920 Armona, Kings County, as wife of Marvin G. Lute; 1930 Dinuba, widowed, with her father Thomas Beckett; 1950 Dinuba as wife of Guy S. Mewhirter. Married Marvin G. Lute 4 May 1904 (F184). Buried Smith Mountain Cemetery (Find a Grave 117958712). Adoption: the 1900 census gives both her parents as born in New York, though Thomas was born in Missouri and Caroline in Michigan. The 1920 census says her parents died when she was six months old and she was raised in an orphan home. The 1930 census describes her household as including her adoptive father. Family link to Thomas J. Beckett and Caroline Farnham (F200) marked as adopted. WikiTree (compiled) says she was born a Riphenburg; no record found to confirm this. Riphenburgs were in California at the time: Wesley Riphenburg appears in San Francisco directories 1875-1894, and Hiram David Riphenburg was born in California in 1882. Not linked. Narrative sources S233 (1900), S234 (1920) and the Person-Source wrapper replaced by the census entries above, which carry their wording. Sourced, grade B. |
