He denied any council or trial. Before Peter Wallis and Francis Wheeler. "Mr Daniell Hurly of Dromgarra in Carberry", who "then lived with McCarthy Reagh and was continuallie with him": eyewitness at the Kilvarrig rendezvous near Timoleague, Whitsun 1642, when McInycrymine asked McCarthy Reagh what to do with John Burrowes. He denied any council or trial. Before Peter Wallis and Francis Wheeler. His account: two days after Kilbrittain Castle was taken by the English, about Whitsuntide 1642, he was at a rendezvous of the country with McCarthy Reagh at Kilvarrigge near Timoleague, when news came of the castle's surrender. McCarthy, "verie much displeased", sat apart under a bush until a gentleman, "daniel mc Teige o Totan", urged him to take horse. As McCarthy mounted, McInycrymine asked what to do with John Burrowes and his company; McCarthy answered "goe you & them to the devill & afterwards doe what you will", or words to that effect. He did not see Burrowes or his wife at the rendezvous, and heard they were hanged that afternoon by McInycrymine or men he appointed; they had been kept at McInycrymine's castle of Beallaheerougher, where Burrowes had gone voluntarily for his safety. Asked whether any council of officers tried Burrowes, he answered "possitiuely there was not": McCarthy rode away at once, "and this Examinant with him as farre as O hey's Castell". He never heard of any charge of sending intelligence to the English laid against Burrowes. Endorsed "The Examinacion of Mr Daniell Hurly aboute Burrowes". |

Note
|
Of Daniel Oge Hurley's circle (McCarthy Reagh's household), but too young to be Daniel Oge (b. c. 1590). Parentage unknown; possibly a son of Daniel Oge (grade C). Dromgarra is unidentified. |
