This Indenture, made this fifth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen, between Elisha Baker and Polly his wife, of the county and territory aforesaid, of the one part, and John Hutchings, of the County of Casey and State of Kentucky, of the other part, Witnesseth: That the said Elisha and Polly, for and in consideration of the sum of twelve hundred dollars to them in hand paid by the said John Hutchings, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, and therefrom forever acquit and discharge him the said John Hutchings, have granted, bargained, aliened, enfeoffed, and confirmed, and by these presents do grant, bargain, alien, enfeoff, and confirm, unto him the said John Hutchings, his heirs and assigns forever, all that tract and parcel of land containing six hundred and forty acres, be the same more or less, said land situate, lying, and being in the county and territory aforesaid, in the Township of Bellevue, and on the north side of Big River.

Beginning at a large Spanish oak on the bank of [Fish Lake?, near the river — reading uncertain]; running North [bearing uncertain] West one hundred [chains?]; thence South 56½ West two hundred chains to a sugar tree, walnut, and mulberry trees; thence South [bearing uncertain] East one hundred thirty-eight chains to the bank of Big River; thence the meanders of Big River to the beginning — including the place whereon the said Elisha Baker and Polly his wife now live.

To have and to hold the aforesaid land and appurtenances, with the reversion and reversions, rents, appurtenances, and issues therefrom arising, to him the said John Hutchings, his heirs and assigns forever; and we, the aforesaid Elisha Baker and Polly, do hereby bind ourselves to warrant and forever defend the premises aforesaid against the lawful claims of all persons or manner of persons whomsoever.

Personally came before me, a Justice of the Peace, Elisha Baker, and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his free act and deed; and Polly, his wife, after being examined apart from her husband, acknowledged the same to be her free act and deed, without any fear or compulsion of her said husband.
