Birth
Note: Place: the 1634 Santiago genealogy calls her "Doña Isauel Ohurleo, natural de Baly Nicarrigui" (native of Ballinacarriga). Date is an ESTIMATE: she was married by May 1601 (fiant 6515) and her son Dermicio was 34 in 1634 (born c.1600), so she was probably born c.1575-1585. |

Note: ESTIMATE: married by May 1601 and alive in Aug 1641; probably born c.1578-1582. |

Birth of a sister

Note: ESTIMATE. |
Birth of a son
Note: Place: "natural de Castelaven" (1634 Santiago genealogy). Date: several witnesses in the 1634 Madrid depositions give his age as 34 ("de hedat de treynta y quatro años"), so born about 1600. Very probably taken to Corunna as an infant when his parents sailed for Spain in Aug 1602 (Coombes, JCHAS 1965, p. 110). |
Marriage
Note: Married before May 1601, when "Donnchadh and his wife Eilis Ni Rannaill Ui Mhuirthile" were pardoned together (Irish fiant 6515, 17th Report DKPRI; cited by Coombes, JCHAS 70 (1965), p. 108 n. 1). The 1634 Santiago genealogy of their son Dermicio names his parents as Don Dionisio Odriscol, señor de Castelaven, and Doña Isauel Ohurleo, natural de Baly Nicarrigui. |
Emigration
Note: After Kinsale and the fall of Dunboy, a second embassy sailed for Spain under Conchobhar O'Driscoll of Dún na Séad (Baltimore), with the Jesuit Fr. Archer and "Donnchadh of Castlehaven, with his wife and family and about forty others". They travelled in a small ship captured from the English and "arrived in Corunna in August [1602] in a state of great distress" (Coombes 1965, p. 110, citing Pacata Hibernia p. 177 and CSP Ire. 1601-03). The wife is not named in this passage; she is identified as Isabel/Eilís Hurley from the 1601 fiant and the 1634 Santiago genealogy. Her son Dermicio, born c.1600, was very probably with her. |

Residence
Note: In a memorial to Philip III dated 26 November 1603 (AGS, Guerra Antigua, leg. 611), Denis [Donnchadh] O'Driscoll, lord of Castlehaven, wrote that because "his and his brothers' lands, castle and port" were in English hands, "his wife, children, and family together with those of his brothers and many vassals have come and come every day to La Coruña", and he could not support them on his royal pension of 80 escudos a month. He asked for a house in La Coruña to shelter them (O'Scea 2004, citing AGS GA leg. 611 and AHN Nobleza, Frías, caja 66, 1, f. 330r). The wife is not named; identified as Isabel from the 1601 fiant and 1634 genealogy. |

Death of a paternal grandfather
Citation details: Inquisition no. 241, MS pp. 86-87 Quality of data: primary evidence Note: The 1631 inquisition finds he "died so seized" of the castle and lands, after which Ranell Oge, his son and heir, "of full age and married", entered. Ranell Oge took Sir James Sempill's assignment on 28 Jan 1614/15, so the father was dead by then. A phrase in the RC copy may read "twenty years now last past" (i.e. c.1611); uncertain. |
Death of a father
Note: Date/place from the inquisition taken at Bandonbridge, Co. Cork, 16 Sep 1631 (no. 241), which finds that Ranell Oge Hurley - having inherited Ballinacarriga from his father Ranell Hurley senior and taken the 19 Dec 1615 patent - "died so seized". Date/place from the inquisition taken at Bandonbridge, Co. Cork, 16 Sep 1631 (no. 241), which finds that Ranell Oge Hurley - having inherited Ballinacarriga from his father Ranell Hurley senior and taken the 19 Dec 1615 patent - "died so seized". The passage naming his own heir and heir's age is defaced in the surviving manuscript copy. His exact death date is not given, only that it was before this inquisition (16 Sep 1631). |

Note
Isabel (Eilís) Hurley, daughter of Randal (Ranell) Oge Hurley of Ballinacarriga and Catherine O'Cullane (Catalina Colan). In Irish records she is "Eilis Ni Rannaill Ui Mhuirthile" (Elizabeth daughter of Ranell O'Hurley), pardoned with her husband Donnchadh O'Driscoll in May 1601 (fiant 6515). In the Spanish records she is "Doña Isauel Ohurleo, natural de Baly Nicarrigui" (1634). The two record systems are independent of each other. She married Donnchadh mac Conchobhair O'Driscoll, lord of Castlehaven (Spanish "Dionisio", English "Denis"/"Donogh"), before May 1601. In December 1601 her husband welcomed the Spanish squadron to Castlehaven. After Kinsale and Dunboy the family sailed to Corunna in August 1602 with about forty others, and by November 1603 Donnchadh's "wife, children, and family" were living at La Coruña on a Spanish royal pension. Their son Dermicio (Dermot), born c.1600 at Castlehaven, grew up in the Irish exile community in Spain and was made a Knight of Santiago in 1634. His proofs name Isabel's parents, confirming her descent from the Ballinacarriga Hurleys. Through her marriage Isabel was aunt by marriage to Daniel O'Driscoll (Knight of Santiago 1633) and to Denis O'Driscoll, Archbishop of Brindisi (1600-1650). Not yet known: whether she returned to Ireland, other children, and her death. Sources: Santiago genealogy (A.H.N. exp. 5852, 1634); Coombes, JCHAS 70 (1965), pp. 108-110 and App. I; O'Scea (2004), pp. 7, 15-17. |
Note
Other possible children (not linked, grade C): "Antonio Driscol, b. Castlehaven", a sponsor in Madrid in 1627 with Dermicio and his cousin Daniel (Walsh, Spanish Knights I, doc. XXV; A.H.N. Calatrava exp. 1832; A.G.S. Estado leg. 2755-2756). The 1603 memorial speaks of Donnchadh's "wife, children, and family" at La Coruña, so there was more than one child. |
